A menstrual
cup is a reusable eco-friendly hygienic option for females used during
menstruation cycles. The funnel-shaped cup, made up of medical-grade silicone,
holds the menstrual fluid instead of absorbing it. Unlike tampons and sanitary
pads, it is inserted in the vagina, creating a suction preventing any leakage.

Below is a guide on how to use a menstrual cup along with a few tips on cleaning and
reusing it.
Steps -
how to use a menstrual cup
1. How to wear it
Firstly, sterilize and clean the cup in hot water
for 8-10 minutes.
Next, squeeze it with your thumb and fold it like
a taco.
Get in a comfortable position like squatting,
standing in the shower, or sitting on a toilet seat. Hold your cup in a
position to push it into your vaginal canal. Don't try to insert it in a
horizontal or vertical direction; the vaginal canal is a slope upwards. Keep
calm, first use your fingers to find the perfect position and then quickly
insert the folded cup inside.
2. How to check the position
Once placed, now you need to check whether it's
set correctly.
Your cup unfolds after it is placed further so
that the knob remains outside. It creates a suction as it unfolds, which acts
as a vacuum seal and prevents any leakage. It is better to let it unfold at a
certain height and then push further to create gentle suction. If the cup
doesn't unfold, relax your pelvic muscles and calmly try placing your fingers
to the sides of the cup, give it a gentle turn creating a seal.
3. How to wash it regularly
To remove it, gently hold the tip of the cup,
give a minimal squeeze, tilt it slightly and take it out. Wash it off with
clean water, use the cup cleaner, which is provided by the brand. Wash your
hands thoroughly in the end. Wash it every 4-5 hours during menstruation.
